Let’s Talk Transport is the easiest way for people to get involved in shaping the future of Staffordshire’s transport network.
In 2024, we’re developing a new local transport plan (LTP). It will describe Staffordshire's future transport network and the practical steps we, and others, need to take to get there. The plan will include all the ways we get around, and how we manage our roads.
The plan will:
Outline the future vision for our transport network in 2050, together with the policies, plans, and programmes needed to realise it.
Describe our aspirations for walking, cycling, wheeling, public transport, rail, car-based travel, and freight.
Describe our aspirations regarding the management and maintenance of local roads.
Explain how we will prioritise, fund, deliver and monitor the schemes necessary to achieve the vision.
Set out our 'asks' of our partners and Government, whose cooperation is essential to realise the vision.
Align with, and support, the council’s broader strategies, plans, and priorities.
Since we have launched let’s talk transport we have:
Launched our walking and cycling maps and survey, to engage with communities being included within our next local cycling and walking infrastructure plan (LCWIP).
Held a poll regarding what transport issues are important to you.
Regularly updated let’s talk transport with content such as scrutiny reports and the Staffordshire business & environment network (SBEN) breakfast video.
Get Involved
We’re putting this plan together with the help of Staffordshire residents, local businesses and key partners.
We’re really keen to know what you think, so we’ll be holding some face-to-face sessions, online webinars, and surveys over the coming months.
Click here to join our email list. You’ll be the first to hear about any new events regarding the LTP, giving you the chance to voice your opinions.
All data collected on this page will be processed in line with our privacy notice. We will use the information that you have given us in order to:
Enable us to develop transport strategies, including but not limited to the LTP and ensuring equality of those strategies to all of Staffordshire’s residents,
Secure funding for transport infrastructure, transport services, travel planning and behavioural change programmes, and
Construct traffic, transport and carbon models and support analytical transport planning.

A settlement hierarchy, called Capability to Achieve Sustainable Travel (CAST), has been developed. It identifies appropriate intervention types depending on the nature of settlements.
Walking audits in Biddulph, Burntwood and Norton Canes, Cheslyn Hay and Great Wyrley, Kidsgrove, Leek, and Rugeley have identified where pedestrian facilities can be enhanced to create an excellent walking and wheeling environment for all. The audits were designed to account for all walking abilities, including people with mobility difficulties.

Sben - Transport Event
sben Annual Networking Event 2024
The annual Staffordshire Business and Environment Network (sben) event, held on July 4th, 2024, brought together Staffordshire’s business community for a morning of discussion and connection. Hosted at the picturesque Entrust Riverway Centre in Stafford, they provided the best continental breakfast I’ve ever had at an event! With this flavourful start, participants sipped coffee and sampled pastries. The tone was set for an exciting lineup of presentations and networking.
Businesses from across Staffordshire converged to exchange ideas, foster collaboration and strengthen the local network. Staffordshire County Council took centre stage with Nicola Swinnerton, the Principal Transport Strategy Officer, presenting on transport-related updates and news. Attendees learned about future plans for Staffordshire, including electric vehicle infrastructure, and strategies to reduce carbon emissions. The focus on transport highlighted sben’s commitment to a greener future where the people of Staffordshire are more connected.
An engaging networking activity broke the ice with Mike Grocott of Intercog leading the session. Attendees participated in speed networking rounds, introducing themselves, discovering more about each other’s businesses and sharing thoughts on transport related issues. Relationships formed during these interactions would undoubtedly lead to future partnerships.
Excitement buzzed as the new sben forum was unveiled. This digital platform provides members with a free space to communicate, share best practices, and collaborate. From eco-friendly tips to business insights, the forum promises to be a valuable resource shaped by sben members (sign up here: Staffordshire Business & Environment Network Forum (sbenforum.co.uk)).
The event received excellent reviews. Attendees praised the event’s organization, content, and networking opportunities with an impressive satisfaction score of 98%. Until next year, let’s keep the momentum going!
