Staffordshire County Council is reviewing its Aiming High SEND Short Breaks service, which provides free activities and short breaks for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families.

Aiming High plays an important role in helping children and young people to build confidence, develop independence, have fun and access new experiences. It also supports parents and carers by providing opportunities for short breaks and family activities.

As part of the review into how Aiming High should be delivered in the future, we want to understand what is working well, what could be improved and what matters most to the people who want to use and support the service.

We know that resources are limited and that we cannot do everything. We therefore need to make sure that future services provide the greatest benefit for children, young people and families, whilst making the best use of available funding.

Over recent months, we have reviewed service data, feedback from families, providers and professionals, and how similar services are delivered in other areas. We have identified a number of possible approaches for the future, and we are now seeking feedback to help inform our thinking before any decisions are made.

We are keen to hear from:

  • Children and young people with SEND
  • Parents and carers of children and young people with SEND
  • Professionals who work with children and young people with SEND and their families

Your feedback will help us better understand the strengths and challenges of the current service, and the potential impact of different approaches for the future.

While we may not be able to act on every suggestion, all feedback will be carefully considered alongside service data, evidence of need, available resources and the Council's statutory responsibilities.

We have separate surveys for children and young people, parents and carers, and professionals. Please complete the survey that best describes you by 13th September 2026.

Thank you for taking the time to share your views and help shape the future of Aiming High in Staffordshire.
