Childcare and You 2026

Do you have a young child or are expecting a baby? If yes please give us your views on childcare.

We know that choosing childcare is a huge decision for families and everyone has different needs and expectations. Added to that the cost can be huge.

To help with childcare costs there is a range of government help and support and available but it can be confusing to navigate and childcare providers offer different hours and packages.

If you are working (and your partner if applicable) you will likely be entitled to access up to 30 hours of funded childcare the term after your baby turns 9 months right up until they start school.

For those on low incomes either working or not working you may be entitled to 15 hours of funding known as Think2 in Staffordshire for your 2 year old (claimed through Staffordshire County Council).

All children aged 3 or 4 are entitled to up to 15 hours a week of funded childcare regardless of income. 

Families may also be able to use Tax Free Childcare or get support through Universal Credit to help with childcare costs.
